Dear JSU TJJ BUS 2 parents,
Can you believe we are almost half way through the trip?! It’s really true that time flies by when you are having fun! This past week we had a jam packed schedule full of fun and inspiration! We started off the week with a fun kayaking experience down the Jordan river. Soon after we continued to a refreshing water hike through the Golan. By Monday we got to experience the beautiful sites and holiness of the city of Tzfat. Tuesday we were back at it with an amazing hike where we ended at a majestic waterfall. We were then rewarded with chocolate and ice cream at the famous De Karina Chocolate factory! We then were lucky enough to hear the story of an IDF tank commander and experience the real live bunkers that hid Israeli soldiers during the Yom Kippur war. On Wednesday we cooled off at Aqua Kef, an outdoor inflatable water park. We ended the day boat sailing on the Kineret! On Thursday we got to go donkey riding and had a water tag battle. On Friday we went to the Biblical Museum of natural history where we got to see and hold some amazing animals and reptiles. After the museum, we went to a mall to do some pre-Shabbat shopping. Finally we ended the day at Tel Azekah, where we got to witness the place where the famous battle of David and Goliath occurred.
After an amazing and inspiring week, we were all ready for our second Shabbat in the holy land!
I want to touch upon something that I’ve never experienced before with any of the other groups I’ve been with in Israel. We visited the western wall for the first time Saturday night. The students who were experiencing the Kotel for the first time were blind folded. Each student walked up to the wall with a friend guiding them. We all stood in a line and we took off the blind folds. At this very moment there was complete oneness and unity as everyone stood in awe. We then got to go up to the wall and experience the Kotel first hand. When we returned to our original meeting point, everyone embraced each other crying tears of joy. There was a clear feeling and understanding that we had made it to the place where for thousands of years Jews from all over the world had come to pour their hearts, and reconnect to our essence- our soul. I was truly honoured to be a part of that moment.
It is crazy to think we only have 2 more weeks left. Looking forward to updating you next week!
